Regional Theater of the Week: Boise Little Theater in Boise, ID

BroadwayWorld.com, the largest theatre site on the Internet, is excited to announce a new feature to its comprehensive regional coverage - the Featured Regional Theater of the Week! Each week, BWW will introduce its readers to a regional theater located in one of our (over 130!) coverage cities. By exploring these different venues, their history and showcasing the production seasons, BWW continues its commitment to expand our presence in communities and cities across the United States.

This Week's Featured Regional Theater: Boise Little Theater in Boise, ID

BLT is an all volunteer, non-profit organization with an unwavering dedication to amateur theatrical quality. For over 60 years we have produced plays in all genres: contemporary and classical, comedy, drama and musicals. BLT is one of the longest running community theaters in America.

Volunteer meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of every month (except June, July, August, and December) at 7:00 p.m. at the theater. Whether you are interested in acting, directing, working back stage, or ushering, they always welcome new volunteers. You can also visit BLT on Facebook.

Boise Little Theater began its distinguished history of continuous productions in 1948, making it one of the oldest all volunteer community theaters in the nation. It has demonstrated an extraordinary stability, many of its members having been with the organization for over forty years, and some from the very beginning.

After a devastating fire in 1957 that destroyed the theater building at Gowen Field and caused the death of two BLT members, a new theater was built in the Fort Boise area of Boise City. This unique round theater has become a city landmark.

The theater was originally designed by Aurthur L Troutner of Trus-dek Corp. The plans included the curved laminated beams in the ceiling, one of the first examples of this type of construction. Mr. Troutner went on to form Truss Joist Corporation and he would often visit to show clients an example of the beams that his company was constructing. Except for the front portion of the lobby, all the flat roof is added on. The expansions were part of the original plan designed by Mr. Troutner. Mr. Paul Moehlmann, Sr., Master BRick Mason, and several volunteers donated the brickwork for the original structure.

The current season includes:

WRONG WINDOW (Comedy/Thriller, Adult audiences) by Billy Van Zandt & Jane Milmore (now playing), 4th Annual Will Act 4 Food, A special event to benefit the Idaho Foodbank, Presented by Daisys Madhouse with support from Boise Little Theater, INHERIT THE WIND (Historical drama, 12+ audiences), by Jerome Lawrence & Robert Edwin Lee (Presented with permission from Dramatists Play Service), THE RED VELVET CAKE WAR (Comedy, 12+ audiences) by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten (Presented with permission from Dramatists Play Service), and COMPANY (Musical comedy, Adult audiences) by George Furth & Stephen Sondheim (Presented with permission from Music Theater International).
