Morrison Center Presents Cabin's Reading & Conversation with Abraham Verghese, 11/5

As part of the 2012-2013 Readings & Conversations series, The Cabin welcomes best-selling author, health advocate and physician Abraham Verghese to the Morrison Center on November 5 at 7:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Morrison Center box office or online at www.idahotickets.com.

**Please note venue has changed to the Morrison Center**

Abraham Verghese is Professor for the Theory and Practice of Medicine at Stanford University Medical School and Senior Associate Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. He is also the author of two memoirs, The Tennis Partner: A Story of Friendship and Loss, and My Own Country: A Doctor's Story, and the novel Cutting for Stone. The widely acclaimed Cutting for Stone, published in 2009 spent more than two years as a bestseller on The New York Times Paperback Fiction list. Writer John Irving notes, "That Abraham Verghese is a doctor and a writer is already established; the miracle of this novel is how organically the two are entwined. Cutting for Stone is a remarkable achievement."

Born in Ethiopia to Indian parents, Verghese pursued a medical education in Africa and India before selecting a residency program in Johnson City, Tennessee. In 1991, he gave up a tenured position as an assistant professor of medicine to attend the prestigious Iowa Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa where he earned an MFA. The focus of his writing and work is to explore the importance of bedside medicine and the value of the physical examination in a technology driven field. Dr. Verghese is widely known for his advocacy on behalf of patients, and as a lecturer on the topics of medicine, physician-patient relationships and writing.

Readings & Conversations is celebrating 11 years as Idaho's premiere annual series presenting internationally acclaimed literary figures who share their work, thoughts about their work, and perspectives on important issues of our time.
